A computer that does jobs

When you list, update or delist on Vinted, Depop, Facebook or Causee from a phone or the website, Ripple creates a job. A computer running the Ripple extension picks it up within about 30 seconds, opens the marketplace in a small window, does the work and closes the window.

Why a dedicated computer

Chrome pauses windows it thinks you can't see. On a computer someone is using, Ripple's windows get hidden behind other work and time out. A computer used only for Ripple never has that problem. A Chromebook is ideal: cheap, quiet and always ready.

Set it up

  1. Install the extension (the Chrome Web Store copy is best: it updates itself).
  2. Sign in to Ripple online and rename the computer, for example "Shop Chromebook".
  3. In Settings › Ripple online & team, check Takes jobs is ticked.
  4. Sign in to Vinted, Depop, Facebook and Causee in that Chrome. Tick "Remember me" where offered.
  5. Power settings: keep the display on while charging, turn off sleep when the lid is closed, and keep it plugged in.
  6. On every other computer, untick Takes jobs, so only this one opens marketplace windows.

Day to day

  • Leave it on with a Chrome window open. Don't use it for other things, and don't close the windows Ripple opens.
  • Watch progress in Settings › Ripple online & team › Jobs for your computers.
  • If a job fails because a marketplace signed out, sign in again on that computer and press Retry.
  • Restart it about once a week so Chrome updates.

What else it does

The computer that does jobs also checks Vinted, Depop, Facebook and Causee for sales, takes sold items down elsewhere, and runs automatic relists.
